Domaine J. Chamonard Morgon 2019
Domaine J. Chamonard Morgon 2019
Country: France.
Region: Beaujolais.
Grape: Gamay.
Style: Crushed red fruit at the front, depth and structure in the finish.
ABV: 13%.
Wine Notes: Domaine Chamonard is run by Geneviève Chamonard and her husband Jean-Claude Chanudet.
They have 5ha of vines in Morgon. Morgon, one of the ten crus (the top winemaking areas in the region), is known for wines with the characteristic cherry/kirsch notes of the Gamay grape, but with more structure and body. This has a good few years of bottle age on it and offers seriously good value.
This is a natural wine. Jean-Claude Cahnudet was one of the pioneers of farming sustainably with minimal intervention alongside other Beaujolais pioneers who were at the inception of the movement. Interestingly, Jean-Claude is said to have spoken out against the 'religion' that the natural wine movement has created. However, this is a wonderful example of a natural wine.
Farming Notes: Organic farming with a deep respect for soil health. Minimal tilling. Natural wine.
Production Notes: Hand-picked grapes with meticulous sorting. A mixture of partially destemmed and whole bunch clusters. Semi- carbonic maceration. Ambient yeast. Unfined and unfiltered. No added so2.
